Enjoy reading. Reblog it if for you it’s worth it. :)
(It’s not yet done. I’m writing this so that others may hear my side of the story, of what happened and why it happened. Para pag nawala man ako, malalaman pa rin nila at maalala nila ako at kung paano ako nagmahal noon hanggang ngayon)
-CHAPTER ONE-
May 2008
I’m Jane. 16 years old, I came from Colegio de Santo Tomas-Recoletos of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. I enjoy playing football, billiards and firing games. I’m come to Manila to study for a college degree my parents and relatives have chosen for me. But if I am not here right now, for sure I would be in Philippine Military Academy training to defend our country.
That was how I introduced myself in every subject during my freshman year’s first week.
A guy from my class said to his bunch of friends “nakita niyo yung girl na yan? Yun oh, yung nasa second row, aisle. Taga province daw yan eh, bisaya. Di marunong magtagalog. english lang ang alam”
Whenever I remember their first impression on me I can’t help but giggle. They honestly think I don’t know how to speak tagalog and that I don’t understand whenever I hear them talking about me in tagalog. Well, I can’t blame them. I really didn’t speak tagalog the whole time I was with them because my tagalog was really bad that time and worse, it has its weird bisayan accent. I don’t want to get embarrassed if they hear me talk in tagalog, they might laugh at me also, so I chose to speak english instead. Some of them sound so funny when they try to talk to me in English, as if I’m some kind of a “foreign student” or something and some of them chose to stay as quiet as possible so they don’t have to talk to me in English.
After a few days or a week of getting to know them, I decided to open up to them and started speaking tagalong with its weird bisayan accent during class. They didn’t laugh; instead they patiently taught me how to properly speak tagalog.
“tag ilan nga ang isang cliff house dun sa caf?” I asked Joana, my seatmate and first college friend.
“anong tag ilan? baka naman magkano?” a guy from my back intruded.
“I’m sorry. I’m still learning.” I explained
“yeah, I know. It’s okay” he said
“ai Jane, si kuya Ram. Kuya Ram si Jane” Joana introduced me to the guy and vice versa
“yeah, I know. Ikaw yung magsusundalo diba?” Kuya Ram asked
“ahhuumm.. ako nga” I agreed
“nice to finally meet you Jane. ai, may plano na ba kayo mamaya kung saan mag la lunch? kasi kami-kami magkakasama mag lunch ehh.” kuya Ram explains while pointing to a bunch of student from a side of our classroom
“wala pa naman” Joana answered
“yun naman pala ehh, sama na kayo sa amin. Doon kami maglalunch kanila Alexa, yung sa isang kaklase natin. Meron daw silang foodhouse na malapit lang dito ehh” Kuya Ram threw an invite
“Sure!” Joana and I both agreed
Along the way towards Alexa’s place, walking with my blockmates, a random guy approached me.
“Hi Jane! ikaw si Jane diba? ako nga pala si Lance.” the guy introduced himself
“hello, Yeah right that’s me. Nice knowing you Lance” I politely answered
As we reached Alexa’s place, I almost got to meet everyone except the three guys who weren’t even talking.
Then I asked kuya ram about their names because they were the ones who didn’t bother talking to me.
“ahh yan sila, tahimik talaga yang mga yan. Yang naka bag lagi si Evan, yung naka long sleeves si Carlo at yung naka Black si Marty” kuya ram said while pointing to each of them respectively
After eating, I stood up from where I was seated and went near to the mini counter. I ordered for a soda and drank it while standing near the fridge of soft drinks.
Carlo went near me and said “bili mo naman ako ng Coke oh, wala na kasi akong pera eh”
I was thinking, “ano ba naman tong taong to, coke lang di pa makabili. kawawa naman siya baka nauuhaw na to o di kaya nabubulunan na doon sa lunch niya”
so I answered “okay. sure.” “ate pabili po ng coke” asking the server for another coke soda.
“thank you ha, di bale bawi ako sayo next time” Carlo thanked me and went back to sit with Marty and Evan
After lunch we immediately went back to class.
English subject (Communication Skills 1)
I’m pretty good at it. I won in the declamation contest several times when I was in Primary and Secondary School.
I was the number one in communication class till a guy whom I know as Marty Santiago competed with me during class recitation about how communication is expressed in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
He dragged my attention. He’s the only person who dared debating with me of how communication is to this and that.
hhhhmmmnn.. This guy truly amazes me. I adore his courage.
To be continued…
